Fine Fabric Care’s Fire Damage Restoration FAQs

Can we start restoration of my fire damage before my adjuster sees the damage?

Yes. Fine Fabric Care makes a careful diagram, complete with pictures (and moisture readings as fire-fighting efforts often leave the building quite wet) for your insurance company’s review. It is important to halt any further damage from occurring, and it may be some time before an insurance adjuster can personally visit the site.

I don’t think I’m insured for fire damage restoration. What do I do?

Call us anyway. Leaving the problem sit can cause tremendous damage. We can take scope of the fire damage, perform essential mitigation, provide you with an estimate, and work alongside you to mitigate the damage quickly, efficiently, and economically.

How successful are you at getting rid of smoke odor?

There are technologies and methods that can be applied to structure and contents to remove odor. Sometimes multiple methods need to be applied. Give us a call for a free consultation over the phone or on-site depending on the situation.

Will Fine Fabric Care work with my insurance?

Yes. We work directly with your insurance company to provide the best fire damage restoration service possible.

I had a fire in my kitchen, do I need to throw out all my food?

Generally speaking, yes. There could be mitigating circumstances depending on how bad the fire was. It’s always good to ask your restoration professional.

How can I help prevent fire damage in my home?

While emergencies can happen unexpectedly, many residential fires are preventable with regular maintenance and safe habits. Use this fire damage mitigation checklist to reduce risk and keep your home safer year-round:

Electrical Safety

  • Check for outdated wiring or overloaded circuits.
  • Have any flickering lights, warm outlets, or frequently tripped breakers inspected by an electrician.

Chimneys

  • Clean chimneys regularly to prevent creosote buildup — one of the leading causes of chimney fires.

Wood Stoves

  • Never leave a wood stove burning unattended.
  • Ensure proper ventilation and keep flammable materials well away from the stove.

Cooking Equipment

  • Turn off oven and stovetop: Get into the habit of double-checking the stove and oven after cooking. We’ve responded to many fire incidents caused by roasters left in the oven too long.
  • Outdoor BBQ grills: Keep grills at least 10 feet away from the home or siding to prevent heat and flare-ups from igniting nearby structures.

Proper Storage of Flammable Materials

  • Store gas, oil, paints, lawn care products, and other combustibles in safe, well-ventilated areas away from heat sources.

Dryer Vents

  • Clean dryer vents regularly to prevent lint buildup, which is a common ignition source.

Candles

  • Never leave candles burning unattended. Keep them away from curtains, decorations, and high-traffic areas.

Fireworks

  • Fireworks can easily injure individuals or damage property.
  • Never aim fireworks toward homes, roofs, sheds, or flammable brush — especially during dry seasons.

Cigarettes

  • Make sure cigarettes are fully extinguished.
  • Avoid flicking cigarette butts into dry grass or organic material, particularly during summer months in Montana.

Christmas Trees

  • Keep real Christmas trees well-watered throughout the season.
  • Dry trees are extremely flammable and can ignite rapidly.
